Wild Things
It’s a wild idea for me to focus on native plants. Perhaps city living is loosening its hold on me. I’m beginning to accept exactly what I see, without modification or rearrangement. Living on Ships Point in Fanny Bay for the past 13 years, I’ve grown fond of the place and its wild life. Walking, I observe the growth of trees, shrubs and grasses, the shifting and decay of beach wood, leaning cedar and arbutus, the annual fanfare of wild rose and skunk cabbage dotting shoreline and swamp. I no longer avoid capturing this gentle environment with its unique mix of complexities.
Species depicted in this collection: Arbutus (Arbutus menziesii), Bigleaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum), Carpet moss (Hypnum cupressiforme), Lungwort (Lobaria pilmonaria), Nootka Rose (Rosa nutkana), Pacific Dogwood (Cornus nuttallii), Skunk Cabbage (Lysichiton Americanum), Sword Fern (Polystichum munitum) and Western Redcedar (Thuja plicata).
